I have found some portable uhf/vhf radios. I need to know if and how to program to match my companys frequency?

I have my cheap portable with bad reception from my employer, i found some sweet radios that have higher wattage and are waterproof etc. I need to know how whould i go about programing my radio that i want to buy to the companys frequency. How would i find the frequency? How would i program it? There may be an encryption, i am a public safety employee, how do you byp that?
