Which is more polar-- CH4, CH3Cl, CH2Cl2, CHCl3 or CCl4?
Respectfully, I think your lab instructor is incorrect. CCl4 is perfectly non-polar, as is CH4. Of the remaining, CHCl3 should be the most polar.
